TERRAIN: Mostly muddy bridleways and rutted byways, with wooded singletrack on Leith Hill. Stane Street tends to be hard-packed or stony in most places. Very hilly to begin with, gradually flattening after Box Hill along Stane Street.

NAVIGATION: Mostly straightforward. The Greensand Way and Stane Street are waymarked routes and well signposted. At Leith Hill Tower descend on the main path (not the first, which is the Summer Lightning black run) and turn left at the junction along the Greensand Way. Under the railway bridge before White Down don’t take the steep bridleway that doubles back up the hill; continue on to take the byway at Landbarn Farm. Use OS Landranger 187.
