Ride 2: Avon Calling

Ride Information

START: Frome station, Station Approach, Wallbridge BA11 1RE, 51.227314, -2.309997

FINISH: Avoncliff station BA15 2HD, 51.339576, -2.281899

DISTANCE: 27.6 miles/44.5km

ASCENT: 3133ft/955m

OFF-ROAD: 65%

TERRAIN: Dirt bridle track, quiet byways and lanes, traffic-free tarmac through the Greenway, and stony tow path.
Moderate climbs get steeper around Bath, with a flat towpath to the end.

NAVIGATION: Easy. With quiet road sections, signed bridle paths and NCN 24 waymarks, this route shouldn’t present
any problems. On the wooded descent north of Faulkland take an unsigned right at a crossroads; a little further on,
along the bridleway to Wellow, as you climb keep the hedgerow on your left and don’t descend until you have passed
the Long Barrow mound on your left. OS Landranger maps 142 and 155 cover all but the final canal section.
