Ride 1: The Deverills in the Detail

Ride Information

START: Tisbury station, Station Road SP3 6JT, 51.060689, -2.078945

FINISH: The Bath Arms, Horningsham BA12 7LY, 51.174110, -2.273493

DISTANCE: 21.9 miles/35.3km

ASCENT: 2578ft/786m

OFF-ROAD: 80%

TERRAIN: Stone, chalk, grass and dirt bridleways and byways, with occasional country lanes.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: This ride finishes at Horningsham, which is just a few miles from Warminster, Westbury or Frome stations.

NAVIGATION: Tricky in places. Although all the rights of way are signposted, sometimes it is hard to follow them, particularly on the descent to Brixton Deverill. It’s also difficult heading towards Sherrington where, turning left on a bridleway through Park Bottom, you should ride up the grassy bank to the right to locate the path rather than ride across the valley floor, where the path eventually peters out. OS Landranger 118 and 143 could be useful.
