Ride 28: Touching the Sky

Ride Information

START: Pont Croesor mountain railway station, LL49 9SP, 52.949518, -4.098102

FINISH: Snowdon summit, 53.069768, -4.075136

DISTANCE: 20.4 miles/32.8km

ASCENT: 5767ft/1758m

OFF-ROAD: 75%

TERRAIN: Quiet lanes, rutted paths and waymarked trails before the steady partially paved yet arduous route to the summit.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: This ride does finish at the summit station, but sadly you can’t take bikes on the train. However, there are three bridleway descents, two of which are very close to the mountain railway stations.

NAVIGATION: Surprisingly straightforward. With the Lo^n Gwyrfai and Snowdon Ranger paths both waymarked, the trickiest sections are around Croesor and out of Pont Aberglaslyn, where you’ll need to push up a footpath before you can remount as you turn right on a trail that runs across you. OS Landranger 115 could be useful.
